LEED Energy Modeling

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating SystemTM is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. BTU Engineering has experience providing energy modeling services to support your LEED project. We have successfully provided energy modeling for projects ranging from LEED certified up to LEED platinum.

Tax Credit Energy Modeling

Enacted by the 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPAct 2005), the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) provides federal tax deductions for energy-efficient property related to a commercial building’s envelope; interior lighting; heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC); and service water heating (SWH) systems. Fully qualifying property provides a tax deduction equal to the cost of the qualifying property up to a maximum of $1.80/ft2. However, tax deductions are based on energy modeling results. BTU Engineering provides annual hourly energy simulations of a Proposed Building model and a Reference Building model to determine estimated energy and power cost savings of the taxpayer’s building. The energy modeling must be completed in accordance with the Performance Rating Method (PRM) presented in ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004 Appendix G, but the models must comply with the requirements of Standard 90.1-2001. This section provides guidance for coordinating Standard 90.1-2004 Appendix G methodology with the efficiency requirements of Standard 90.1-2001.
