Derek W. Hengeveld, P.E. Vice-President, BTU Engineering, Inc.

Mr. Hengeveld has been involved in over 100 energy assessments since 1996. During that time, he was directly involved in the operation of several successful energy assessment programs including the Energy Analysis and Diagnostics Center (EADC), the Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), and the Energy Analysis Lab (EAL). In 1999 he was recognized for his efforts when he received one of four IAC leadership awards in the nation. He recently finished a Steam Benchmarking Study sponsored by the Department of Energy in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratories. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a computer science minor from South Dakota State University in 1997. In 1998, he completed his Master of Science in Engineering also from SDSU. In addition to consulting, he teaches part time in the Mechanical Engineering Department at South Dakota State University. He has taught classes such as Introduction to Mechanical Design, Design of Thermal Systems, Thermo-Fluids Laboratory, Engineering Materials, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics.
